Abstract
In the article the problem of formation of students' skills of rational way of search and research activity in the course of foreign language learning is analyzed. It is recommended to use exercises for formation as the general, and special skills at the heart of which actions by analogy, comparison, a choice from a certain set, a combination, transformation are. Examples of tasks to exercises are given.
