Abstract
The article discusses the state of development of national pedagogy in the period from X to XVIII centuries; considers change in the content of study in Church and state periods; examines the contribution of outstanding educators both periods in the development of pedagogical thought; explores the application of individual representatives of the pedagogy of progressive methods in teaching.
