Abstract
The article presents a theoretical analysis of the factors influencing the occurrence of mental retardation. The classification of the causes of mental retardation of domestic scientists, as well as develop recommendations for educators and psychologists working with such children. Study of abnormal development of the mind is the main task in different sciences, such as: special psychology, pathopsychology, defectology and child psychiatry. Search general and specific characteristics, the study of the causes and mechanisms of development of some mental defect, enable early detect violations, to seek ways to correct them.
